About Children's Creative Movement
My
experience in dance education over the last twenty-five years has proven the value of creative movement for young
children. In addition to developing creative potential, Children's Creative Movement has been shown to stimulate important
developmental areas such as verbal skills, social skills, sensory awareness and physical development. It also has
a positive affect on behavior, self-esteem, mental concentration and body awareness.
The mission of TsunamiDance Studio: the development
of creative potential through music, art and dance, is put into practice through a curriculum which uses games,
props, music and improvisation to explore time, space and energy, form and sensation. My movement classes
are progressive, each one building upon the lessons of the previous class allowing for the development
of each child's personal creativity.
At TsunamiDance Studio, we do not offer classical ballet classes to children under the age of 7 years. Children enjoy dance and are more successful
dancers when they have the chance to explore their creativity before learning
the discipline, technique and repitition of classical ballet. After the age of 7 most children are mentally
and physically mature enough to move on to more disciplined dance styles.
